The Audacity of Faith shares how God used my father, an unknown young evangelist named Bob Pierce, to change the world in Jesus’ name. The impact of my father’s life is still felt through the two ministries he founded, World Vision and Samaritan’s Purse. And millions of people are alive today because of his vision to care for widows and orphans. But the question that motivated me to write this book was how did God transform a poor, 12-year-old street preacher into “the greatest missionary statesman of his time”, to quote Billy Graham?
As I read through my father’s memoirs, I discovered stories about miracles and audacious acts of faith that my father never told me! But as a writer I knew that if I wasn’t honest about the struggles as well as the miracles, the stories would be fun to read, but hard to relate to. So, I told Dad’s story the way he would have told it…warts and all! Because the truth is he struggled and even failed a few times as God put him through the tests and trials that prepared him to live a life of “audacious faith” and “Christ-like compassion”.
I learned from both his victories and mistakes, and I was inspired to live out my faith with greater audacity! I pray that you will feel God speak to you as you read a story that others have described as Indiana Jones meets Mother Teresa!
Bob Pierce, the founder of two of the worlds most notable Christian ministries, was a man of intense spiritual passion and clear vision. This gripping biography balances Bobs tragic mistakes with the great achievements God accomplished through him. It shows how Gods grace and power can accomplish amazing things through less-than-perfect human vessels.
Today, World Vision and Samaritans Purse bring physical and spiritual transformation to millions of desperately needy people around the world.
